國人烹食普遍使用的佐料-青蔥,其在栽培過程中之頭號大敵為青蔥甜菜夜蛾,由於它躲在蔥管中,噴施藥劑難以觸及蟲體,所以防治效果不彰,反而因為施藥頻繁,造成農藥殘留的問題。藥試所經多年的開發與應用研究,發現核多角體病毒對青蔥甜菜夜蛾有極高的致病力與極佳的防治效果,經推廣使用,不但降低了甜菜夜蛾的為害,也避免了社會大眾消費者對化學農藥,殘毒殘留青蔥上過高的疑慮,更獲致蔥農對病毒使用效果的肯定及增加蔥農的產量和收入。
Green onion is a commonly used ingredient in Taiwanese cooking. While it is growing the green onion is often in contact with its natural enemy – the beet army worm. The worm usually hides inside the tube of the green onion so it is virtually impossible to kill the insect by spraying pesticide. Spraying pesticide is not very effective and in fact, frequent spraying leaves pesticide residue on the plants.The Chemical and Toxic Materials Research Institute has devoted several years to research on beet army worms, discovering that NPV is highly lethal to the pests. Various trials have shown that the use of NPV greatly lowers the harm caused by the worms, while consumers have no reason to worry about possible pesticide residues on green onions. Farmers can benefit greatly from the use of NPV as it not only prevents infestations by the pest, it also increases their crop yields and income.
