台灣地處亞熱帶界，四季氣候溫和，農地劃分複雜，成為許多鼠類良好的棲息場所。多年來政府大力推動滅鼠工作，全省野鼠數量顯著的降低，但有些地區的鼠隻密度仍是相當的高。
台灣鼠類約有12種，其中會對農作物造成危害的野鼠主要有四種，分別是小黃腹鼠、赤背條鼠、田鼷鼠及鬼鼠。本片介紹它們外部型態、分布地區、棲息場所及生活的習性。
目前推廣的有可滅鼠、撲滅鼠及伏滅鼠等三種餌劑，除了撲滅鼠對鬼鼠的毒效較差，不適用於甘蔗園外，其餘的藥劑都可施用於各種作物區。
野鼠的防除，除了要全年持續的進行之外，還必須要把三月至四月鼠類的生殖鼎盛期及九月至十月鼠隻達到性成熟的階段，為防治工作重點。如此雙管齊下才能更有效的降低鼠隻密度，進而減少也鼠對作物的損害程度。

Taiwan is located in the subtropical region and its overall climate is generally warm throughout the four seasons. The variety and complexity of its agriculture makes it an ideal environment for rats. Throughout the years, the government has put a great deal of effort into eliminating rats. Results show that overall, the number of rats has dropped, but the density remains high in some regions.
There are twelve species of rodents in Taiwan. Of these, four cause harm to agricultural crops: the brown country rat, the Formosan striped field mouse, the Formosan mouse and the Taiwan bandicoot rat. This video talks about the places they inhabit and their habitual behaviors.
Currently promoted baits are used to eliminate, catch-and-kill, and ambush-and-kill. With the exception of “catch-and-kill,” which is ineffective against the Taiwan bandicoot rat and thus not appropriate for sugar cane farms, all of these baits can be used on all kinds of farms.
The prevention of rats not only takes a whole year of continuous work but also requires special caution March through April, the peak of rodent reproduction, and September ~ October, when rodents reach their puberty/maturity. This kind of knowledge can help to further reduce damage to crops from rodents.

Farmers have always been troubled by the wilting of bitter melons caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. Momordicae, because the fungus is extremely difficult to prevent. The author of this video has researched melon grafting for many years, developing a process of connecting the root of the bitter melon to that of a loofah. This prevents several possible diseases during the growing stage, including seedling blight, fruit sunburn and sheath blight, as well as the possible leaking of plant fat during the maturing period. Finally, the development of the “sanpin” variety of bitter melon has successfully overcome the problem of wilting.
This video explains the process of grafting between loofah and bitter melons and how the related diseases are kept under control. It also describes how research was carried out in the project.

國人烹食普遍使用的佐料-青蔥，其在栽培過程中之頭號大敵為青蔥甜菜夜蛾，由於它躲在蔥管中，噴施藥劑難以觸及蟲體，所以防治效果不彰，反而因為施藥頻繁，造成農藥殘留的問題。藥試所經多年的開發與應用研究，發現核多角體病毒對青蔥甜菜夜蛾有極高的致病力與極佳的防治效果，經推廣使用，不但降低了甜菜夜蛾的為害，也避免了社會大眾消費者對化學農藥，殘毒殘留青蔥上過高的疑慮，更獲致蔥農對病毒使用效果的肯定及增加蔥農的產量和收入。

Green onion is a commonly used ingredient in Taiwanese cooking. While it is growing the green onion is often in contact with its natural enemy – the beet army worm. The worm usually hides inside the tube of the green onion so it is virtually impossible to kill the insect by spraying pesticide. Spraying pesticide is not very effective and in fact, frequent spraying leaves pesticide residue on the plants.The Chemical and Toxic Materials Research Institute has devoted several years to research on beet army worms, discovering that NPV is highly lethal to the pests. Various trials have shown that the use of NPV greatly lowers the harm caused by the worms, while consumers have no reason to worry about possible pesticide residues on green onions. Farmers can benefit greatly from the use of NPV as it not only prevents infestations by the pest, it also increases their crop yields and income.

加入關盟總協(GATT)是政府既定政策，且勢在必行。為因應大量農產品進口對我國農業產生的衝擊，必須加強進口農產品檢疫、檢驗措施，以防止外來疫病、蟲害、農藥、毒物等汙染物傳入。本片介紹國際動植物檢疫和檢疫協定、我國對進出口水果檢疫規定、以及目前針對水果害蟲檢疫處裡發展之技術等，並強調必須農政與研究單位團隊合作，才能有效減少我國農業損失。

Taiwan will enter the GATT sooner or later, it’s just a matter of time. Thus the Taiwanese government needs to reinforce its oversight of the importation of agricultural products in order to prevent the entry of any possible disease, pest, fertilizer or poison. This video introduces international agreements on the inspection of animals and plants, quarantine of imported and exported fruit, and the technology developed for fruit pest control. It emphasizes the importance of cooperation between agricultural agencies and research teams in order to minimize losses from damage.

Brief study of pheromones for insects

農藥的使用，在台灣相當的普遍，要減少農藥的使用，就應發展綜合防治，其方式為利用一些非農藥的方法，配合農要做最合理的整合應用，以達到防治的目的。其中昆蟲性費洛蒙，即是近年被使用究防治害蟲的一種技術。本所性費洛蒙研究開發的體系，可分為生產、品管、及應用三大部分。

生產部分包括大量養蟲、費洛蒙組成份鑑定以及費洛蒙的化學合成；品管部分包括配方與生物活性測試及推廣可行性的試驗；應用部分則為田間綜合防治與效益的評估。本所性費洛蒙研究已完成跨系合作規劃，具有科技研究整合團隊之雛形，希望與各試驗研究機關加強合作，儀器設備及人員均能互相支援，最後使研究成果能夠和農民與消費大眾分享。
Fertilizer is widely used in Taiwan and integrated measures must be used to minimize dependence on fertilizer. The most effective way to do this is to apply some non-fertilizing methods. One recently applied technique involves the use of insect pheromones.This institute has established three departments to research and develop insect pheromones– Production, Quality Assurance and Application. The Production department focuses on breeding massive insects and testing the composition of pheromones. The Quality Assurance department is charge of biological activity testing and usage. Lastly, the Application department evaluates the effectiveness of applying insect pheromones in protecting farms.The research institute has utilized cross-disciplinary cooperation to develop a multifunctional team with a strong technology and research base. It hopes to further cooperate with various research agencies so that resources, facilities and manpower can be shared. The institute wishes to share its research results with farmers and consumers.

番茄與青椒自幼苗期至採收完畢長達數個月，隨時會遭受各種病害的危害，如番茄夜蛾、斜紋夜盜蟲、甜菜夜蛾，球菜夜蛾、薊馬類、蚜蟲、溫室粉蝨及蟎類等。前述害蟲大多具有趨光性，性喜歡晝伏夜出，防治時需由田間管理及藥劑防治，雙管齊下。

防治的方法如下：
適時施藥防治
田間清園管理
施放天敵
懸掛誘蟲盒及套袋
生物防治
對各種害蟲要有正確的認識，才能保握有效的防治期，再配合正確的管理措施，這樣才能有效的防止各種蟲隻的危害。
It takes tomatoes and green peppers several months to ripen to harvest from seed planting, and they may be damaged at any time during this period by pests such as Helicoverpa armigera Hubner (Cotton bollworm, or Tomato fruitworm), Spodoptera litura Fabicius (Tobacco cutworm, or Cotton worm), Laphygma exigua Hubner, Agrotis ypsilon Rottenberg, Onion thrips, aphids, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Greenhouse whitefly), and mites.Most of the pests mentioned above are afraid of light. They usually hide during the daytime and come out at night. It takes both farm patrol and pesticides to prevent damage from these pests.
