Wonderfully detailed storyline. Each character comes to life with unique personality a complex history behind them. Settings are described so well that one could almost smell the ocean. The time-jump was well done and in the final pages of the book, the story comes together with an exciting twist. If you like mermaids and tales about love, you will enjoy this book.
Despite being a love story, Salva Me will often remind you of Treasure Island, Moby Dick, and sometimes The Odyssey. From the very first paragraph, you sink into rich visual details of Ms. Beatty's writing. The adventure starts right away with a plan to hunt for mermaids and the story doesn't slow down from there.

Ms. Beatty's writing style is literary and readable, with shifts to different times and different perspectives, and she often lingers on details of the ocean setting for atmosphere. Readers will quickly feel like they know the characters well. When we watch them sit down to a meal, for example, the apt descriptions of how they eat reveal their personalities. Short paragraphs and short chapters, lots of dialogue, sea chanties, journal entries and letters--all the fun stuff that makes for quick and entertaining reading is here.
