And So They Were Married is a quick read - only 1029 Kindle locations or about 65 pages. The description on the free Kindle page says 162 pages. That's incorrect. It's a short story. The description also states that there are illustrations. They do not appear in this freebie. Again, I wish Amazon would correct this in these Gutenberg classics.
Sam Brewster is in love and engaged to be married to Elizabeth North. She is the youngest daughter of a common, country family. Her father is the local doctor. As the title states - they do get married. No spoilers there.
Elizabeth is a naive, impressionable gal. She's soon manipulated by an acquaintance, Evelyn Tripp. Miss Tripp has ulterior motives for her interference into the planning of the wedding. Things quickly spin out of Elizabeth's control.
While the plot isn't one I normally like, the characters painted by the author are so vivid and fun, that I had to give this ebook four stars. Elizabeth's mother, Mrs. North is a worrier, grandma is stubborn and outspoken, and her father, Dr. North is a sentimental, lovely man. I enjoyed all of these people. Morse Kingsley has a way of describing their personalities with quick, thorough detail. Well done.
